WoodmenLife partnered with Omaha North’s Academy of Finance to provide students real world experience with actuarial and investment professionals.
In April 2014, during a multimedia presentation to WoodmenLife executives and guests, Omaha North seniors presented what they had learned throughout the year about the actuarial function and about the types of investments insurance organizations should consider. Additionally, each student shared his or her own web-based biography, showcasing personal achievements and career goals. Following the presentations, Congressman Lee Terry spoke about the importance of financial literacy and the role government has in education. He also presented certificates to the students.
This partnership helps Omaha North to better prepare students for Omaha-based careers that offer higher wages, largely due to the technical expertise required to perform in these jobs. According to the Bureau of Labor’s Occupational Outlook Handbook, the employment of actuaries is projected to grow 26 percent from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average for all occupations. WoodmenLife helps give students a better understanding of the actuarial and investment professions and careers, promotes finance education among students, and provides opportunities for students to learn from professionals in the field.
