Daniel W. Rice III was elected to the Board of Directors of WoodmenLife as National Watchman on July 27, 2001. He had previously served on our National Judiciary Committee since 1997.

A member for 43 years and current president of Kinston Chapter 46, Rice graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor's degree in social work and received his Master's degree in social work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is retired as Director of Community Services at the Caswell Center in Kinston, NC, and Executive Director of the Caswell Center Foundation, Inc.

Rice has served on WoodmenLife's National Legislative Committee and as a National Representative. He has also served as Chairman of Trustees, Vice President and President of the Jurisdiction of North Carolina. A member and Treasurer of the East North Carolina Fraternal Corporation Board of Directors, Rice is also past president of the Bright Belt District Association. In addition, he chairs the Jurisdiction of North Carolina's fraternal project, the Children's Home Program.

Rice is the recipient of WoodmenLife's Youth Program award and Mr. Woodman (Fraternal Spirit) award, and was awarded the Fraternalist of the Year Award twice by the North Carolina Fraternal Congress. He has also received numerous recognitions for service to his community, including the Jaycees' Distinguished Service Award, the Governor's Award of Excellence for Volunteer Service, the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver Award, and International Lions Club Humanitarian Award. He is the 2008 recipient of the Governor's Award for Excellence in Public Service, the highest award a state employee can receive in North Carolina. Rice was also recognized as the Kinston-Lenoir County Citizen of the Year for 2012.

Rice and his wife, Johnnee, piano accompanist at the National Conventions since 2001, have two sons, Jonathan and Carson, of Burbank, CA.
