Matthew Ellis provides executive leadership to the Legal and Risk Management departments of WoodmenLife, a multibillion-dollar, A+ Superior-rated life insurance company headquartered in Omaha, NE. In that role, he leads the legal, compliance, security, privacy, and enterprise risk management areas of the organization.
Ellis also serves on WoodmenLife's National Board of Directors as Secretary. He is appointed to the Executive Committee of WoodmenLife, which meets weekly to discuss strategic initiatives and review the overall performance of the organization. Prior to his election to the Board, Ellis served as Vice President & General Counsel.
Ellis serves on the Board of Directors of WFS Holdings, Inc.; Woodmen Financial Services, Inc.; Woodmen Foundation; Lauritzen Gardens; the Nebraska Humane Society; and the Greater Omaha Business Ethics Alliance.
Additionally, since 2003 he has created and taught curriculum for Advanced Business Law as an Adjunct Professor at Creighton University.
Ellis began his career with WoodmenLife as Director & Assistant General Counsel in 2006. Before joining WoodmenLife, Ellis was self-employed and worked for Midlands Choice, Inc., a large national PPO; and Preferred Physicians Insurance Company.
Ellis graduated from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., in 1994, and earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 1996 and law degree in 1997 from Creighton University in Omaha. Ellis holds Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) series 7 and 66 licenses.
In his spare time, Ellis enjoys golf, gardening, cooking, and tennis.
