Illinois Disaster Bulletin

On July 17, 2017, certain counties in Illinois were declared state disaster areas due to flooding. In response, the Illinois Department of Insurance requested that licensed insurers implement safeguards to ensure that Illinois consumers affected by the disaster do not suffer unnecessary hardship.

The affected counties are: Cook, Kane, Lake, and McHenry.

WoodmenLife has implemented the following safeguards for consumers in the affected disaster area:

  • Any cancellation or non-renewal notice issued on or after July 12, 2017 will be suspended until September 30, 2017 on any inforce certificate.
  • Affected certificate holders are granted an additional 60 day extension of any certificate provision or other requirement that imposes a time limit for a certificate holder or claimant to perform any act, including the submission of a claim or proof of loss, reporting of information, payment of funds.

Illinois consumers can contact the Illinois Department of Insurance regarding any disaster-related dispute or issue by calling the Department's complaint hotline at 1-866-445-5364, or online at: https://mc.insurance.illinois.gov/messagecenter.nsf.
