Shawn Bengtson has been serving as Executive Vice President & Chief Risk Officer since 2022. She was elected to the National Board of Directors of WoodmenLife in 2023 and is a member of the Fraternal Committee. Bengtson became a WoodmenLife member in 2001, joining Chapter 704 in Bellevue, NE, where she held the positions of President, Vice President and other capacities. She currently is Vice President of the NE/IA Jurisdiction and is Chair of the Board of Directors of WoodmenLife Financial Services.

Bengtson began her career with WoodmenLife as a Securities Analyst with the Investment team in 2001. She was promoted to Portfolio Manager in 2002; became Senior Portfolio Manager in 2007; Director, Portfolio Management in 2010; and Vice President, Investment in 2013. Bengtson was Vice President & Chief Investment Officer prior to serving as Chief Risk Officer.

She received her Associate of Science degree from York College. Bengtson went on to earn three degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln – a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Statistics, a Master of Science in Actuarial Science and a doctorate in the Interdepartmental Area of Business, with focuses on Corporate Finance, Investments, and Banking.

She serves on the Board of Directors for Food Bank for the Heartland.

Bengtson enjoys reading biographies and history, working in the yard, and traveling to see family, friends, and new places.
