C. Shawn Bengtson was appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer, effective July 1, 2022. She began her career with WoodmenLife as Securities Analyst in 2001. She was promoted to Portfolio Manager in 2002; became Senior Portfolio Manager in 2007; Director, Portfolio Management in 2010; and Vice President, Investment in 2013.

Bengtson received her Associate of Science degree from York College in 1980 and attended Abilene Christian University in 1981. She went on to earn three degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln – a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Statistics (1982), a Master of Science in Actuarial Science (1990) and a doctorate in the Interdepartmental Area of Business, with focuses in corporate finance, investments and banking (1996).

A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder since 2004, she earned her Chartered Insurance Operations Professional (CIOP) designation in 2009.

Bengtson became a WoodmenLife member in 2001, joining Chapter 704 in Bellevue, NE. She has served as the chapter’s president, vice president and in other capacities. Shawn currently serves as the NE/IA Jurisdiction’s vice president.

Active with the Fontenelle Forest, Bengtson served as president of the Forest’s Board of Directors in 2010 and maintains a Steward level of involvement. She also is a member of the York College Board of Trustees.

She is a member of the Chicago Quantitative Alliance, continuing her path with research and publications in environmental, social and governance investing.
